Get Started
The Building with Mission Playbook and accompanying Helpful Resources and Tools To Try are designed to help organizations better understand the development process so that they can begin to play a more active role in building more affordable housing options for older adults. So jump in and get started.
Stage 1: Build the Case
Begin by building a case that explains why contributing to the development of new housing for older adults aligns with your organization’s mission and what role your organization could play.
Stage 2: Develop a Concept
This stage is all about exploring what might be possible. You’ll need to identify a site and outline the characteristics of a housing project that are appropriate for the population you hope to serve.
Stage 3: Assess Feasibility
This stage is all about exploring what might be possible. You’ll need to identify a site and outline the characteristics of a housing project that are appropriate for the population you hope to serve.
Stage 4: Develop Design and Experience
In this stage of work you are shifting from concept development to execution. You will refine both the physical design of the project and the experiential design for future residents. This includes securing approvals, finalizing budgets and financing and securing operational partners to deliver programs and services.
Stage 5: Build the Project
Shovels are in the ground now, permits are being secured and inspections are being completed. You are also identifying and securing tenants and putting the finishing touches on new care and service models that are planned.
Stage 6: Ongoing Operations
The project is built and occupied. Now a team will need to be in place to support ongoing property and budget management as well as tenant programming and service delivery.
